All Virtual Carrier drivers have the option of leasing a dry van or flatbed trailer through CloudTrucks. If you choose to lease a trailer through us you will receive a trailer lease agreement to sign. Here are the most important things from that agreement that you need to know before you lease!
Trailer cost
Payment for your trailer is deducted weekly from your job statements via the repayment system. The repayment system week starts Monday morning at 12:01 AM PT and ends at 11:59 PM PT Sunday night.
Dry van
Dry van trailers cost $200 per week
Flatbed
All flatbed trailers cost $250 per week
Trailer deductions
Trailer deductions will be collected weekly on Mondays. Your trailer deduction begins accruing 2 business days after you picked up your trailer, but you won’t be charged until the first Monday. If you picked up your trailer and the next business day is not Monday, you’ll be charged a pro-rated weekly amount from 2 business days after you picked up your trailer to the following Monday.
For example, if you pick up your trailer on a Wednesday, you will be charged a pro-rated amount for Friday - Sunday on the following Monday morning as well as your normal weekly trailer payment for that week. After that, we will charge the full weekly lease amount every Monday.
Picking up your trailer
We have hubs located throughout the country where we store trailers, as well as one-off parking spots that may be convenient for pickup. After the Trailer Use Agreement is signed, we will work to find the closest location for pick-up for you. Our team can also try to help find a load to get you closer to your pick-up location.
Securing your trailer
You are responsible for the safety and security of your trailer. The trailer must be secured with a kingpin lock anytime the trailer is detached from the truck and a lock on the trailer doors at all times. When storing the trailer detached from the truck, it should be parked in a secured, paid location with 24-hour security and a parking attendant. In the event your trailer will not travel with you for more than 5 days, please contact the trailers team so we can make plans while you are not using it.
CloudTrucks exclusivity
Trailer may only be used when operating under CloudTrucks U.S. DOT operating authority, for CloudTrucks approved loads, and by CloudTrucks approved drivers on your team.
Financial responsibility
- Maintenance and Repairs: CloudTrucks covers the cost of standard DOT level inspections required 4x/year at approved locations and the normal wear and tear maintenance like tire and brake wear. Drivers are responsible for repairs that are not due to wear and tear like holes in the side of the trailer, road call assistance, and trailer damage.
- Tolls & Fines: The driver is responsible for paying any tolls, fees, or fines when operating the trailer. We highly recommend getting a toll transponder and adding your trailer. Getting a toll transponder also saves you a significant amount of money as there are significant fees charged by toll vendors for not paying a toll directly that can lead a $5 toll to become $60+.
- Towing, Impound, Storage: You are responsible for the payment of any towing, storage, and/or impound fees if the trailer gets towed. This includes any costs associated with trailer drop-off at the time of off-boarding.
Returning your trailer
In the event you wish to return your trailer, please reach out to the trailers team (415-649-5956). You are required to drop the trailer at a hub location provided by CloudTrucks. We will do our best to ensure the trailer can be returned to a mutually agreeable hub location. If the trailer is not returned to a hub location and we have to retrieve it, you will be required to pay for the cost of the trailer move in addition to a supplemental administration fee.
Trailer lease length
Once you sign the TUA, the trailer is leased to you for a minimum of 30 days. If you choose to end your trailer lease, you must give Trailer Ops 7 days notice prior to ending your lease. If 7 days notice is not given, you are liable for paying for the remaining 30 days.
