Tolls are a part of an owner-operators everyday life. All CloudTrucks Virtual Carrier drivers are responsible for managing and paying their toll expenses.
What is the best way for me to pay for my tolls?
We recommend that you get a toll processing service, like PrePass, that automatically handles tolls on your behalf so that CloudTrucks is not billed for the tolls that you have accrued.
PrePass will not only provide you with clearer direct access to your toll billing, it will also save you money avoiding fees from our service partner when you are billed through that third party.

What happens if I don’t have my own toll processing service, and don't pay at the toll booth?
If you don’t pay at the toll booth immediately upon entering a toll road or bridge, and don't have your own processing service, then toll authorities will take pictures of your license plate and bill CloudTrucks for the amount you failed to pay.
CloudTrucks partners with a service partner called Verra Mobility to make sure that any tolls charged to plates operating under our authority are paid in a timely manner. This provides a clear accounting of what plates have accumulated toll charges. These toll bills that get paid through Verra include Verra's service fee.
Also, you might be charged an extra Evasion Fee, which are very common and can be as high as $100 on a $10 toll, so please make every effort to pay your tolls as soon as you approach the toll booth.
How do I pay CloudTrucks back for the toll they paid on my behalf?
When CloudTrucks pays for tolls on your behalf, we do it through a third-party service provider who helps us manage tolls. This provider follows a monthly billing cycle, meaning they add up all the tolls a driver missed for the whole month and charge us in one lump sum. We then add a tolls deduction to your fleet’s account for that amount. You can find your toll charges on the Deductions screen of your app.
I have my own toll billing service, so why am I being charged for tolls through CloudTrucks?
Rather than being double-charged, it is more likely that your toll transponder was not scanned when you went through the toll. When the toll is assessed to your license plate, it is then handled by our toll partner Verra Mobility.
Please provide us with an invoice PDF from your toll servicer showing that they paid a toll assessed on that specific time, date and toll location.
If you aren't sure the exact time, date and location of the toll charge you are being billed, reply to the email you received regarding the Verra Mobility Toll, or email support@cloudtrucks.com to request that information. Be sure to reference the details of the specific charge you see on your account so we can get that information for you.
Why am I getting a bill for a trailer toll?
Typically there aren't separate tolls for trailers and tractors. However, the toll gets assigned based on the license plate that the toll authority is able to scan. It will always scan one plate from each tractor-trailer.
If the license plate picked up is the tractor's plates, which is most common, the bill goes to your own toll transponder for billing, like PrePass, if you have that set up.
If you don't, the bill goes to Vera Mobility (CloudTrucks's toll bill service partner), and then you'll as a toll deduction on your CloudTrucks account. CloudTrucks also sends out a toll bill breakdown proactively to all drivers charged for tolls for the last week to provide you more transparency.
If the license plate that the toll authority scans is the trailer you are using instead of the tractor plates, that's when you see a "trailer toll" charge in your CloudTrucks deduction. Those toll bill goes to the trailer owner (ie Metro Trailers), who then send to us, and we apply it to your account.
If you want to reduce getting these bills, be sure to add your trailer to your toll transponder. If you switch trailers, be sure to update the trailer in your toll transponder account as well.
And if you don't have a toll transponder yet, we strongly recommend you do! It will save you money on billing fees, and provide you more visibility and control into what you are being charged for. For obtaining an PrePass for tolls please visit: https://enrollment.prepass.com/
