CloudTrucks is firmly committed to providing safe and DOT compliant drivers to our brokers, direct customers, and the motoring public. While our FMCSA Vehicle Maintenance score has seen slight improvement since February, maintenance violations continue to impact our BASIC score.
Maintenance scores are regularly reviewed by brokers and shippers to determine their comfort with us as a carrier that minimizes their risk. We need every driver’s help to turn this around, so we can increase access to direct shippers and additional brokers.
By improving our Vehicle Maintenance scores, we can not only demonstrate confidence in our drivers’ safety and equipment, but also meet the standards of operation on the road, resulting in decreased risk to other motor operators. Consequently, improving our Vehicle Maintenance scores translates to more confidence in the CloudTruck’s fleet and can even lead to decreased insurance rates. Lastly, when identified early, defects can cost less to repair, increasing the probability of being approved for maintenance assistance by the CloudTrucks Risk team.
Updated DVIR Policies
As such, we have implemented the following changes to our Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) policy in accordance with the DOT’s DVIR regulations, effective immediately.
We are now following a tiered infraction system for incomplete or missing DVIRs. Expectations are as follows:
- Contractors are required to complete a proper pre/post trip inspection daily
- Contractors are now required to document and submit at least one complete DVIR within the Motive Driver App by the end of each week for both their vehicle/tractor and their trailer/asset.
- Instructions on completing DVIRs found here.
- 1 week, defined as Sunday to Saturday.
- Incomplete, inaccurate, missing, or pencil-whipped DVIRs for each week will result in the following:
- First time a DVIR is incomplete, inaccurate, missing, or pencil-whipped, a 24 hour booking block will be imposed
- Second time a DVIR is incomplete, inaccurate, missing, or pencil-whipped, a 48 hour booking block will be imposed
- Third time a DVIR is incomplete, inaccurate, missing, or pencil-whipped, a 72 hour booking block will be imposed and CloudTrucks will review the driver’s status. Please note, a third violation could result in termination from CloudTrucks.
- The timing of booking blocks will be implemented at CloudTrucks’ discretion, balancing the continuity of already-booked loads and driver safety.
- There are no excuses for Vehicle or Trailer Maintenance violations and they will not be tolerated. Each violation will be reviewed and corrective action will be determined at CloudTrucks’ discretion.
- A review of driver performance will be conducted following the issuance of a citation.
Thank you for your time and understanding. Safety needs to be everyone’s priority.
Reminder: in order to qualify to haul direct shipper freight for CloudTrucks, you must be in good safety standing. Vehicle or Trailer Maintenance violations may prevent you from accessing higher paying direct shipper freight.
Please note that completing timely DVIRs and quarterly inspections aids in CloudTrucks being better suited to accommodate drivers with Pickup Pay requests.
Please see our Vehicle Maintenance Policies & Processes on approved maintenance vendors, and our Maintenance Repair Partners for maintenance discounts.
Additional resources on DVIRs and their impact can be found within this DVIR Guide provided by Motive.
