Yes! Most insurance policies carry a “notice and cooperation” requirement that allows the insurer to disclaim coverage for a loss that is not reported in a timely manner. Typically, it becomes more difficult for an insurance adjuster to gather information as more time passes. Also, as a general rule of thumb, the longer a claim is open, the more expensive it becomes to resolve the claim. Even worse, most investigations rely heavily on the value of the statements of each driver, and if the other driver is the only one to provide a statement, that party will get the benefit of having submitted evidence without your perspective on the accident.
Whenever possible, present the claim on the same day as the date of loss to help protect yourself! When you do, you are more likely to save money on the claim as well protect your driving history with the DOT. At CloudTrucks we also maintain records of Drivers that follow all the guidelines, so that we have the ability to recognize and reward high performers. Not sure if your accident needs to be reported? Give us a call from the scene and we would love to walk you through the accident reporting process!
