Lumper fees are a type of fee that is paid to a lumper for services such as unloading and loading freight from a truck.
We recommend that you contact the support team as soon as you know there will be a lumper involved. If you aren’t sure, but believe there will be a lumper involved at your destination before you arrive, call or text the CT support team at 415-480-2336.
Lumper fee handling depends on the broker, so check on this directly with us as as soon as possible. Some brokers pay the lumper after the load is finished, while others pay when it is loaded.
Typically, brokers will pay when the load is completed by sending a new rate con, which our operations team then pays right away. With JB Hunt for example, they do not as a rule reimburse for lumper fees, whereas CH Robinson will often send the lumper payment information directly to the driver. Rarely our support team will provide funds upfront for the driver to pay the lumper, and then we deduct that amount from the load settlement before the broker agrees.
In some cases you may decide to pay the lumper directly in order to avoid delays. In that case, we will reimburse your lumper payment as soon as the broker approves it. To do so, report the accessorial for lumper reimbursement directly in the load on the CT app.
