If you want to be on the road making money for weeks at a time, you may wonder how you can avoid taking a 34-hour reset out on the road each week. Recap hours allow you to drive each day, and keep earning money without a 34 hour reset.
If you manage your clock wisely, you can reduce or eliminate the 34 hour duty clock reset.
Recap hours refer to how hours of service duty cycles are calculated on a rolling basis. The duty clock expires after 70 on duty hours in 8 days, but again, this 8 days is rolling. So if you hit the 70 hour limit on Monday, but 10 of those hours were from the previous Monday, you will have 10 hours more in your cycle on Tuesday
To put it very simply, instead of driving to the maximum 14 on duty hours in a day, shorten your on-duty hours each day so you never exceed 70 hours in an 8 day period.
